– Water was turned into the town ditch this week. The town ditch will be in charge of T.D. Riley, and all wishing water will settle with him.
– A month or two ago a move was made by several of our sportsmen to establish a rifle club in Meeker, and it hung fire until on Monday evening last when an organization was launched. A fine range has been selected near the race track, and prices on targets and other supplies sent for.

– Life in this world now is just one conference with another.
– Albert Romey’s new shop in the Meeker hotel was opened Monday. It is probably one of the handsomest and best equipped barber shops in the state.
– Oscar Shehorn has purchased the attractive JM Hulett residence on Water Street.

– The 90 kiloton nuclear explosive, designed to free natural gas trapped in tight rock formations in the Piceance Creek Basin, is still on schedule for its Thursday, May 17 detonation, representatives say. Lawrence Livermore Laboratory technicians from California were here this week preparing the bomb and lowering it into the ground.
– Rex Dickman and Joni Morlan were chosen as King and Queen at last Saturday’s prom. Attendants were Tom Allen and Kathy Sullivan while crown bearers were Coley Turner and Christen Knudsen.

– After a lengthy discussion during the public hearing on the matter, the Meeker Town Council on May 5 voted to require all mobile homes coming into Meeker to be not more than 13 years old. Older mobile homes will no longer be allowed within city limits.
– Bill Ertmer recently recognized 24 Meeker High School students for participation in the “Homework Club.” The club was created to help elementary school students with their homework. Some of the members awarded include John Strate, Brendon Overton, Michaela McKinley, Justin Miller, Greg Rael, John Raley, Jennifer Cook, Angelo Gianinetti, Ryan Schoop, Isaac LeBlanc and Amy Stewart.

– Friday about 8 a.m, the old river bridge across the White River east of the present highway fell into the river as it was being used by sheep herders for crossing. Luckily, no human lives were lost, but four animals were killed.
– Rangely High School has entered the annual Plymouth Trouble Shooting Contest, which will bring together the top auto mechanic students of this area at South High School, Denver, on May 19.

– Eight RHS students participated in the 15th annual Colorado Mathematics Olympiad including James Allred, Jessica Greer, Dan Attanuci, Aaron Kistenmacher, Brian Stewart, Rebecca White, and Sarah Cookson.
– Mary Ann Fuller, Charles White, and Jack Denney recently retired from the Rangely RE-4 school district.
