Never entirely happy! Beginning to kick because the streets were getting dusty. No kicking because they are muddy. Bound to have so much trouble and kick — coming.
Fred Carstens of Miller Creek ditch company was in the city Monday and reports good progress being made on that important enterprise Water will be running as far as the Veatch ranch this summer.
Town Marshal Nichols will be around the coming week to collect dog and poll tax. Get your money ready as he will only make the rounds once. The full among will be collected this year. The Town Council has so ordered.

This section received one of those “million dollar” rains midweek. The farmers had most of their crops in, so that this shower should give them an excellent start.
Mrs. Ambrose Oldland entertained at a lovely auction bridge party on Thursday. Mrs. David Smith, Mrs. Oscar Shehorn, Mrs. Ray Lawton, Miss Jessie Cunningham were the price winners.
Frank Hossack has been appointed deputy assessor to take Mr. Davis’ place while in the Junction hospital. Frank will take care of the field work in the office which must be done before July.

The bicentennial year really must have citizens interested in their government these days. At least one could deduce that comparing the number who turned out two years ago to the 183 who voted in Tuesday’s sanitation election.
Meeker will once again honor one of its most generous citizens, Freeman E. Fairfield, in a special afternoon ceremony next Wednesday, May 12.
The April snow survey report for White River drainage, made by Bob Buckles, Soil Conservation Service, and Bill Jordan, contractor, shows the depth of snow on both courses below the 10-year average with Rio Blanco water content below average.

Fred Nichols celebrated his 92nd birthday last week with not one, but two parties. On the evening of the 27th, a surprise potluck birthday dinner was held with 10 people wishing Mr. Nichols a very happy birthday.
Early indications are that there should be ample fuel for summer vacations, according to the AAA Auto Club.

Area residents linked hands around the courthouse Thursday, April 26 in celebration of April being the Month of the Young Child. The event is organized to bring attention to the young people in the community. Following the event, many of the participants enjoyed a sack lunch on the courthouse lawn.
Jeff Hillewaert, ranch hand at the Crawford Ranch, gave a few treats to the ranch’s new baby yak and it’s mother. The yak was born at about 5:35 a.m. April 20.
