Water was turned into the town ditch this week.

James Lyttle and family were passengers on Wednesday’s outgoing stage bound for Pittsburgh, PA.

The roads between here and Rifle are said to be worse now than they have been at any time this spring, owing to the recent rains.

The Oldland company added a fine new truck to its motive power equipment this week. Master John Oldland will be Chief Engineer. 

Tully Scott, former supreme judge of Colorado, died at Denver last Sunday. He had been in poor health for a long time past. 

Notwithstanding cold nights, farming operations are going right along.

The resignations of Jim and Joann Stanko, Rock School teachers, and Gertrude Connaway Lambie, school lunch supervisor, were accepted by the Meeker School District Re-1 board at their meeting Monday night. Part time high school teacher Ike Shults has also indicated that he will not be returning next year. 

The third annual Business Education Day was held at Rangely College on May 2. James Sanders, business instructor at the College, announced that three high schools brought 35 students to Rangely for competitive tests in Typing I and II, Shorthand I, Bookkeeping I, and General Secretarial. Meeker High School won the outstanding school award to retain the traveling trophy for the third consecutive year. 

Meeker Public Library celebrated National Library Week with cookies and punch and an open house. The open house was sponsored by the Woman’s Club of Meeker and the Library Board.

Jimmie Watson and Cory Ruchti were prom queen and king. 

The Society of American Foresters and the U.S. Forest Service will be sponsoring a tree planting project in Paintbrush Park on May 14. This project will be in coordination with the Barone Middle School Environmental Education class and the Eastern Rio Blanco County Recreation District. 

The Meeker alternative high school has received a grant from 7 Lakes Lodge east of Meeker to build a science lab in the alternative school.

Sixty-four diplomas will be awarded at the Rangely College Commencement ceremonies to be held in the Heley Building at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 11, 1974.

Miss Peggy Hanzon and Pat Harris were Prom Queen and King Saturday night at Rangely High School.

The Rangely Lions Club would like to thank the good People of Rangely and Dinosaur for the warm response to the annual broom sale. Products sold are manufactured by the Colorado Industry for the Blind.

Jana Pierce received this year’s Presidential Outback Award, presented to a COlorado Northwestern Community College student who has demonstrated outstanding progress and effort in his or her education endeavors. Pierce is enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program on the CNCC-Rangely Campus.

The National Honor Society is sponsoring a Walk-a-thon to donate funds to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints will sponsor a bread-making skills night.
