The proper move now is to drop political animosities and pull together for the expansion of the interests of the great empire of Northwestern Colorado.
The official figures of the population of Colorado were given out this week. The state is given at 539,700, Rio Blanco County 1,609, and Meeker 507.
Meeker’s only Chinaman, John Wong, left for his native country Thursday morning. John came to this section in 1885, and this is his third visit home.

George Harker, the youngest son of Mr. Frank Harker, had the misfortune last Saturday morning to accidentally shoot himself through the upper part of the leg.
Meeker got a big publicity write-up in all the daily papers past two weeks! Yes! But it wasn’t an oil well or building boom of any kind It was stated in bold headings that Meeker has fifty cases of smallpox and the health authorities were unable to cope with the epidemic. We seem to never miss the exaggerated “black eyes” but anything of public advancement is listed under the caption of some nearby town.

Pfc Joseph V. Ridings of Meeker is now a patient at William Beaumont General Hospital, El Paso, Texas. He was wounded by a land mine in Germany last March, while serving as BAR man with the 328th Infantry Regiment, 26th ‘Yankee’ Division.
Mr. M.E. Williamson of Denver came in this week and has taken the position as pharmacist at the Sides Rexall Store, taking the place of Mr. Harold Goodale who has moved to Palisade.
County Treasurer Charles Tagert and County Clerk Herbert Morlan left Sunday for Denver where they are spending a few days attending to business matters.

Jack Lambert and Danny Wilson pounded a few nails in preparation for major additions to the High School. Funding principally by $366,631 in oil shale lease friends, six new classrooms, a building trades shop, paint room and drafting room are being built.
Having narrowed the score to a one touchdown margin in the second period and stopping the Chargers at the Cowboy 14, Paul Edwards’ pass three plays later was intercepted which Crowley County soon cashed in for six and a 20-7 lead.
Inge’s Kitchen is located in the historic old Watson house, on the corner of 5th and Park in Meeker. The abstract on the house goes back to 1887. It was built by Thomas Watson. He was the owner and operator of the Meeker Mercantile on the corner of 5th and Main, which is now the location of the Independent Lumber Co.

The Rangely Times will be printed a day earlier next week because of the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Rangely Booster Club announces that a Pot Luck Dinner will be held in the Jr. High School gymnasium Tuesday.
The CNCC Archery Club, assisted by their sponsor Lisle Haas, arranged and participated in an Invitational Tournament held in the Hefley Building.

Kurt Douglas, athletic director for Rangely High School, announced that Rangely High School may be classified 1A for football for the 2002-2004 seasons. The current population of RHS is 227, which is one more than Meeker High School.
The Meeker Campus of Colorado Northwestern Community College received a grant of $10,000 from the Freeman Fairfield Charitable Trust to help students at the school with tuition for the coming semester.
