Herbert S. Howey, one of our well-known and popular young cattlemen, adn Blanche M. Schooler were married last Wednesday at the home of the bride’s parents on Piceance creek, Rev. H.A. Handel officiating.

The Herald erred last week in stating that J.B. Malone of Rifle was the chief carpenter on the Baer building. Since penning that item we learn that Seaman Burdis of this place was the supervising carpenter, and right will is he qualified to carry through to a successful finish such an important undertaking.

Judge Butler dismisses case against Rev. Gregg for lack of evidence in District Court. However, the majority of the people of Rio Blanco County would rather have had a jury decision in this case. We would have been more satisfied with the verdict of 12 of our own citizens who are better informed on our own local conditions than an imported judge.

The Harp Line took out 41 tubs of Baer Creamery butter this week, billed to Chicago. This is going some when our home butter is successfully competing on the Chicago market with the famous Elgin brands.

The appearance of taxpayers’ distress of ever-spiraling taxes was evident at the county budget hearing in Meeker last Thursday, when some 80-90 concerned citizens crowded into the district courtroom to express themselves to the record budget proposed for 1975.

Mrs. Beverly Wilson of Craig and Hancock & Johnson General Contractors of Boulder announced today that they will build a 400 unit mobile home park which will be called the Ute Terrace Mobile Home Community, located between the Town of Meeker and the Rio Blanco County Airport.

The driver of a delivery truck was still pale and shaken 30 minutes after his truck snagged a telephone cable that brought down a high voltage pole, complete with three transformers, amid a shower of sparks, banks, and crackles last week. High voltage three-phase power lines, telephone lines, and cable TV lines were strewn everywhere in the alleyway behind the bank/Meeker Drug/Meeker Hotel. 

Dirck Garcia, along with Elefar and Toby Garcia, and Dave Overton, went hunting on the first day of rifle season in the Game Unit 2 special draw area. Just 210 minutes after they started the hunt, Dirck bagged a nice bull with a .25-06 at 125 yards. He said it’s the biggest one he’s brought home, with a 45-inch rack.

The total assessed valuation for Rio Blanco County rose to $97,448,200 this year, due primarily to the increase of oil and gas production along with the increased per barrel price.

You may not remember that far back, but once upon a time, movies were rated on how good they were, not on who was allowed to see them.

Moon Lake Director Patsy Lollar received a certificate for completion of the Credentialed Cooperative Director Program from the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association’s Chief Executive Officer, Glenn English. 

RHS seniors Julie Gilson and Shanna Hayden were really painting up the town Monday night. They, along with other classmates, did the All-Star painting on the windows at Bestway Grocery Store.
