MEEKER | The Town of Meeker is replacing the Water Street water line, and there will be no access to or from the Mesa via 10th Street Bridge on Monday, June 1 and possibly Tuesday, June 2.
The detour route will be County Road 8 up to County Road 4. Plan for an extra 15 minutes or so of commute time to and from Meeker.
According to Town Manager Lisa Cook, the biggest problem with the current Water Street pipes is that they are undersized. The lines date back to the 1940s.
The project will cost $1.3 million, and the Town received a DOLA grant for about $520,000 of that. The pipes will be replaced with ductile iron, according to Cook.
The Water Street line is one of the last to be replaced. “Over the years they have replaced pretty much everything,” according to Cook. 10th Street and 12th Street are two other remaining projects.
This replacement, “has been on the list (of capital improvement projects) for quite some time.” It was budgeted for last year, but time ran out before the project could be completed.
Expect a reverse 911 call from Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office with more info about the bridge closure tomorrow evening.
