RANGELY I For the second week in a row, Rangely senior Holly Lepro won the discus competition. The most recent win was in the Palisade meet, held at Stocker Stadium in Grand Junction against teams from larger schools.
Andrew Morton also placed first in the triple jump, and several Panthers set personal records.
“Rangely had a very strong weekend despite still not having our full team‚” head coach Stephanie Kahler said. “We are struggling a bit to get everyone together as this is a very busy time of year with other clubs and activities having events.”
Lepro won the discus with a throw of 110-11, and she finished fourth in the shot put with a distance of 37-3 1/4.
Morton won the triple jump with a jump of 41-6, and placed seventh in the long jump. Junior Connor Phelan placed 10th in the 500-meter and was 14th in the long jump.
“Almost all of our participants earned personal records at the meet and they are dropping times and increasing distances consistently,” Kahler said.
Lady Panther Brittany Babineaux, who went out for track for the first time her senior year, set personal bests in the 100- and 200-meter dashes while sophomore Mitchell Webber continues to improve his hurdle times, completing the 300-meter hurdles in 47.43 and the 110-meter hurdles in 18.59, both personal records.
Rangely freshman Chris Hogan set personal records in the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter with times of 5:18.99 and 11:21.46, respectively.
“We were pleased with our performance this past weekend and we are looking forward to a doubleheader this weekend with our whole team, in Coal Ridge on Friday and Glenwood Springs on Saturday,” Kahler said.
