El Jebel resident Henry David Twitchell was found dead along Highway 13 on Friday, Jan. 12, according to a release from the Eagle County and Rio Blanco County sheriff’s offices.
According to the release: “Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue and a dog from Search and Rescue Dogs of the United States (SARDUS) descended in the area of mile marker 30 on Highway 13 on Friday, Jan. 12, at approximately 10:07 a.m. to perform an intense grid search, running the dog south and north along Highway 13. Members of Rio Blanco County Search and Rescue searched the grid using probe poles and utilizing dogs along the highway, due to the depth of the snow.”
Twitchell was found at approximately 10:45 a.m. at the bottom of a deep ravine. The investigation remains on-going.
Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office will handle the case.
Eagle County, RBC Sheriff, and Garfield County worked together to locate Twitchell, who was last seen in Carbondale Thursday, Jan. 4. Twitchell’s vehicle was reported in a slide-off accident around milepost 30 on Highway 13 in Rio Blanco County that same day around 6 p.m., however Twitchell was not present when law enforcement arrived on the scene. The Rio Blanco Sheriff’s Office discovered a single set of footprints leading from the vehicle to the highway and conducted extensive searches in the area.
Twitchell’s cell phone was last pinged in Garfield County around mile marker 16 on Highway 13 in the early morning hours of Friday, Jan. 5. At the time, Twitchell was entered into the National Crime Information Center as a missing person.
