RANGELY | Steve and Susan Dempsey of Rangely are this week’s “home of” honorees. The Dempseys have lived here six years. Steve and Susan have been married 35 years.
Steve is a field geologist for Chief Well Logging. “He is a ‘mud logger’ and monitors the gas or oil on the wells that are drilled. He tells them what formations they are drilling in and if they’ve found oil or gas,” Susan said. Susan works for the Rangely Museum during the summers.
The Dempseys have three children: daughter Jana Horvath, husband Aaron and their daughter Brianna of Las Cruces, N.M.; son Ty Hurt, wife Fran and two boys Torbyn and Tristan of Vernal, Utah; and son Jesse Dempsey of Howard, Kan.
When they are not working, Susan likes to garden and Steve is an amateur gunsmith who enjoys working on his own guns.
“We also take care of cows up on Divide Creek and enjoy visiting our kids and grandkids. Our granddaughter from Las Cruces is here for a couple of weeks which is nice,” Susan stated.
What Susan likes most about living in Rangely is that “…it is a quiet, small town. We like small towns. I grew up on a ranch south of Silt. We like to live out in the country.”
