RANGELY | The Rangely High School girls basketball team extended its impressive winning streak to 16 games this past weekend with back-to-back victories against Plateau Valley and Rifle High School.
On Friday, the Lady Panthers traveled to Plateau Valley, defeating the Cowboys 61-33. The victory marked their 15th consecutive win this season. Senior Miah Wren delivered a standout performance, recording a double-double with 19 points and a career-high 11 steals. Fellow senior Ashlynn Ducey also contributed significantly, tallying 13 points and nine steals.
The Panthers dominated the boards, finishing the game with 22 offensive rebounds—the eighth consecutive game in which they secured at least 13 offensive rebounds. With the win, Rangely improved to 15-0 for the 2024-25 season and extended their road winning streak to 10 games, dating back to last season.
Less than 24 hours later, the Lady Panthers hit the court again, this time facing the Rifle Bears. Despite a quick turnaround, Rangely maintained its momentum, defeating Rifle 60-24 on Saturday night. Head Coach Jimmie Mergelman emphasized the team’s consistent approach.
“You know, we just do the same thing every day—press, play good defense, and shoot the ball,” Mergelman said.
The victory marked the Panthers’ 11th consecutive road win. Coach Mergelman acknowledged the speed of Rifle’s young team, which presented some challenges.
“They were fast, so we needed to get out and transition and do those kinds of things,” Mergelman noted.
Looking ahead, the Lady Panthers will travel to Baggs, Wyoming, on Thursday to face Little Snake River, with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m. On Friday, they will take on Vail Mountain, with the game set to begin at 5:30 p.m.
Mergelman highlighted the importance of preparation for the upcoming matchup against Little Snake River.
“They’re pretty good. They’ve got a big girl and a couple of girls that can shoot it, so we just have to work hard and keep getting better every day,” she said.
Good luck to the Lady Panthers as they aim to keep their winning streak alive and continue their dominant season.
Go Panthers!
