Maker’s Muse opens on Main Street in Meeker

MEEKER | Want to learn how to sew? Make a quilt? Try a new creative venture? Maker’s Muse, which officially opened last week provides space — and instruction — for those activities.

Owner Hannah Turner moved to Meeker in 2016. While working a remote job for Wells Fargo, she decided she “needed a winter hobby.” She began teaching herself to sew using YouTube and  joined the Rio Blanco Stitchers, a local quilting group, as a way to meet people.

When her Wells Fargo job came to an end last fall she chose to stay in Meeker instead of relocating to San Francisco, Phoenix, or one of the other options she was given, and started thinking of what she could do here. When the space at 610 Main St. came available, she took advantage of the opportunity to open her own business.

Maker’s Muse will provide classes, events, some equipment and a limited inventory for supplies, and studio space for creative projects. The space is available for groups to rent for birthday parties, classes, retreats, and more.

“It’s about everything ‘making,’” she said. “I want it to be a creative place.”

Her first classes will be in May, beginning on Saturday, May 3 with a table runner quilting project. Classes about sewing machine maintenance, use, and safety are scheduled for Monday evenings in May. Open sew, $10 per person, is scheduled on Sundays from 12-5 p.m.

Turner will be holding quilting classes, and is looking for other instructors for sewing clothing and various crafts like stained glass, paper crafts, crochet, painting and more.

If you have gently-used fabric, notions, sewing machines, cutting mats, irons, etc., from non-smoking homes, consider donating those items for others to use while learning.

Stop by Maker’s Muse in April from 12 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday to meet Turner and see the space. In May the schedule will change depending on classes offered and teacher availability.
