MEEKER — Congratulations to the Meeker High School class of 2008. We wish you all the very best in your future! Actor Stanley Tucci said, “If you find that thing you love, it doesn’t necessarily matter whether you do it well or not — you just need to do it.” In other words, if you hate your job, even though it pays well, you’re going to be miserable. Find something you love to do and do it with all your heart!
Doing something you love keeps you healthy, happy and mentally alert, studies have shown. And it might just keep you alive in the face of difficult odds, like Meeker resident Jay Jensen.
Jay is a five-year cancer survivor. After battling testicular cancer off and on for almost a decade, undergoing a bone marrow/stem cell transplant and having his right lung removed when the cancer spread, this year Jay walked the Bolder Boulder 10K race on Memorial Day. He is a patient at Cancer Treatment Centers of America in Tulsa, Okla., and enjoys a very active life that includes mountain biking, hiking and hunting. Seeing as how June 1 is National Cancer Survivors Day, it seems right to honor Jay and share his story of courage and determination. We can all take a lesson from him: Do what you love to do and refuse to quit!
We’d like to wish a belated happy birthday to Linda Jones, who turned 58 on May 23 and April Allen on May 28; and a happy 39th anniversary to Linda and her husband Alvin on May 24.
Celebrating birthdays this week around town: Ivo Shults, May 30; Kaidence Gumm, Nick Ruckman and Lindsey Taylor, May 31; Meghan Allen, Buddy Pakuer, June 2; Kyle Wangnild, June 4.
Happy anniversary to Charles and DeeAnna VanDiver, May 31; and Ray and Peggy Lopez, also May 31; Dean and Artie Parr, June 3; and Wilber and Lois Richardson, June 3.
