MEEKER | County Planner Leif Joy encouraged Meeker’s Board of Trustees to consider taking on the task of constructing and paving the through streets in new subdivisions, such as the one approved Tuesday in the Sanderson Hills area, for the sake of the town’s residents.
“This subdivision that you are going to address tonight is of no concern to me. I’m talking about the people in the town as a whole… Develop the roads so that the people can develop the rest.”
Trustee Travis Day asked how the board should address precedent-setting and questions about fairness from developers if the town develops some roads and not others. Joy said there are ways to incentivize projects and make them more appealing to investors. “Unfortunately, if we get into the ‘play fair game’ we’ll spend the rest of our lives doing it.”
The resubdivision in question is in Sanderson Hills on adjacent properties owned by Lee and Stephanie Overton and Justin Grant. The subject property is all vacant land and the proposed resubdivision will vacate Russel Circle and Walbridge Circle cul-de-sacs;.
The Planning Commission voted in favor of approval and the trustees followed their recommendation contingent on the Town Planner verifying that the final plat meets the dimensional requirements of the Meeker Municipal Code and the applicants and the Town entering into a reasonable Subdivision Improvements Agreement (SIA) prior to signing the final plat.
Trustees also approved an invitation to bid and specifications for the downtown lighting project. The town has been approved for $150K in grant funding to repair some damaged poles and replace the lumieres on the downtown light poles.
Trustees approved a letter supporting the county’s application for a $20 million grant from the State Broadband Office Advance to be used to complete the “last mile” of the broadband project.
In staff updates, the paving project on 11th and 12th streets is complete, and the water line replacement on Garfield is complete. Police Chief Eddie Thompson said his department had 317 calls for service, four citations and three trips to the Moffat County jail in July. Community Development Coordinator Carly Thomson said the housing needs assessment survey is available on the Town’s website and encouraged participation.
