Meeker trustees approve water rate increase effective Sept. 1

MEEKER | The Town of Meeker’s Board of Trustees approved a resolution to authorize a 50% increase to the monthly base rate for water at the May 20 meeting. The base rate will increase from $24 a month to $36 in September 2025, marking the first rate increase in 20 years. The increase will allow the town to space out necessary increases every few years to meet demands of replacing aging infrastructure instead of increasing rates annually.

During public participation, Regas Halandras, representing the Meeker Area Mountain Biking Association (MAMBA) provided an update on the pump track project at Ute Park. Halandras said “a bunch of kids have been showing up, helping out” with the pump track and they helped with the trail work weekend.

Resident Si Woodruff requested discussion with the board and town staff at the next meeting to resolve a disagreement over an easement on Park St.

Representing the 250/150 Project, a planned celebration of the country’s 250th birthday and the state of Colorado’s 150th birthday in 2026, Teresia Reed presented a draft proclamation for the event that was approved by the trustees. Reed is the regional representative for the 250/150 project.

In other business, the board heard a request from Aaron Weston regarding the possibility of getting vehicular access through Ute Park to property he owns on the other side of the park. The board and staff agreed to seek further review by the town’s attorney.

Trustees also approved extraterritorial water agreements for the new hangar at the airport, contingent on the county’s approval.

Trustees also discussed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Park District (ERBM) with ERBM Executive Director Josh Embrey and heard an update on work at Circle Park.

In closing, Trustee Scott Nielsen announced that he is stepping down from his position on the board as he is moving to Oklahoma next month. Check the Public Notices section for information on how to submit a letter of interest for appointment to the vacancy.
