MEEKER | Meeker High School students attended the Monday’s regular school board meeting as part of their social studies curriculum, making it the largest group of students present at a meeting in recent history, according to board members present.
MHS Principal Amy Chinn said the winter band concert has been postponed, but will be rescheduled, and said one student has been approved for early graduation and one for early completion. Both students will graduate in May.
Superintendent Chris Selle said the viruses currently circulating have impacted student attendance somewhat. Seventeen high school students are still on track for perfect attendance in the first semester, however, according to Chinn’s update.
Thanks to some unanticipated revenue coming in and some lower than expected expenses — mostly due to unfilled staff positions — the board approved a bonus of about $500 net for full-time employees.
Of significant discussion for the board was a suggestion to provide additional compensation for Selle, who is acting as superintendent and elementary school principal. Selle has not requested additional pay, and some board members questioned the message such a move might send to other staff members. The board agreed 5-2 to table a the matter until the March meeting.
