Meeker’s school board recognized students and staff for recent accomplishments Monday at the regular board meeting, including spelling bee champion Samantha Patton and the music department for a widely praised concert last weekend.
Also introduced and recognized were the coaches and team members of Meeker’s state championship wrestling program. Retiring coach JC Watt thanked the administration and the board for their support for the athletic programs.
The board acknowledged and thanked the district’s snow removal team — Stanley Crawford, Joe Gutierrez, Greg Cravens, Russell McClain, Melissa Woodward and Jack Richmond — for their work to keep the parking areas and sidewalks clear of snow, which demands early morning extra hours.
Superintendent Chris Selle said there is movement in the state legislature this year to create a permanent fix for the rural school funding model. Whether that occurs or not, the board is making budget decisions to remain competitive in hiring and retaining teachers and staff going forward. Considering the importance of hiring and retaining teachers, the board approved the 2024-25 teacher salary schedule.
The board also reviewed graduation requirements on first reading and the guidelines on furnished housing for new staff. Multiple positions are open in the district.
