New Meeker police officer was first emergency responder to house fire

MEEKER | Officer Keydon Long joined the Meeker Police Department late last year. He was the first emergency responder to arrive at the scene of the house fire at 11th and Pinyon on Aug. 24. According to Meeker PD, when Long arrived, two female residents were still inside the smoke-filled home and one was unaccounted for. He removed the women from inside the home and got them to the street to safety and then returned and found the third resident attempting to put the fire out and safely got him away from the fire.

Long was treated for smoke inhalation at Pioneers Medical Center and released. He has made a full recovery. Long’s quick response, along with those of passers-by, nearby neighbors and fellow emergency responders likely prevented a greater tragedy.
