CRAIG I Colorado Northwestern Community College (CNCC) announced John Anderson as new Vice President of Craig Campus and Student Services.
“John has the dedication, desire, and abilities we were seeking. He will be a great leader on the Craig Campus and for Student Affairs. We are lucky to have him as one of our Vice Presidents,” said CNCC President Ron Granger.
Anderson began his new position on April 1 and brings nearly a decade of experience in leadership or administration to the job.
“With every position I have had from admissions advisor, national training director, director of admissions, to my current position as VP I continue to learn and grow. More importantly I get to see our students grow and succeed. I hope to continue this growth and keep helping change our student’s lives,” Anderson said.
He grew-up in a small Iowa town that he said is much like Craig where energy and agriculture are important economic drivers. After graduating with a Bachelor of Science from Iowa State University he moved to Denver. He is currently making progress towards an MBA through the University of Colorado.
Anderson left the Front Range in 2018 for a role with CNCC and the amenities offered in Northwest Colorado. Anderson began his journey at CNCC in April of 2018 as Director of Admissions/Registrar. Initially he lived in Craig before his responsibilities took him to Rangely. He is excited to return to Craig and the opportunity to serve in the community.
“This side of the mountains and specifically Craig captured my attention and I fell in love with the area,” Anderson said.
The Craig campus had been without a permanent vice president since the August departure of former Craig Vice President Janell Oberlander who left to accept a vice president position at the college in her home town of Gillette, Wyoming.
“It’s nice to have someone to handle the day-to-day operations on the Craig campus,” said Dean of Career Technical Education Kathy Powell-Case.
Anderson, did not initially apply for the position only adding his name to the list of candidates after two failed searches and at the urging of members of the CNCC leadership team.
“The community college plays a vital role in our community and students’ lives with an enormous amount of opportunity for growth. I can’t thank the current staff, faculty, and community members enough for the support and involvement with CNCC,” he said.
Anderson has begun looking to buy a home in Craig with plans to set down roots.
“I’m looking forward to strengthening those relationships and continuing to grow and serve new students,” he said.
