There are some great responses provided by candidates for the Eastern Rio Blanco Metropolitan Recreation and Parks District board in this edition. Find out about the candidates and then cast your ballot by mail or in the dropbox at the courthouse. In the coming weeks we’ll have similar Q&As with candidates for the fire district board and the hospital district board. Those elections are also on May 6, but voting will be in person — at the Fairfield Center (200 Main St.) for the hospital, and at the fire department (240 7th St.) for the fire district.
- Local MMA Fighter Makes Debut: 🥊 Rangely’s Jaime Sanchez won his MMA debut in Salt Lake City. After years of boxing, he’s focusing on MMA and hopes to “kick butt and rearrange a lot of people’s faces.” 💪
- Water Rate Discussion: 💧 Meeker is beginning to discuss raising water rates due to aging infrastructure and the need for reserves to meet repair and replacement costs. 📈
- Riverfront Project Progress: 🚧 Work on the White River access points in Meeker is underway, including ADA accessibility and bank stabilization. The $1.6 million project is funded mostly by a state grant. 🏞️
- 4-H Shooting Sports Leaders: 🎯 Rio Blanco County 4-H has 11 new certified shooting sports leaders, boosting the program. 👏
- Track & Field Updates: 🏃♀️💨 Meeker and Rangely High School track teams had strong performances at recent invitationals, with several athletes setting personal records. 🏆
- Baseball Updates: ⚾ Meeker Cowboys baseball team is currently 0-6 for the season. 😔 Rangely Panthers baseball team is scheduled to play Olathe at home. 🏡
