The Town of Meeker’s Board of Trustees met Tuesday with a short agenda.
With two vacancies on the planning commission following the resignations of Jim Kendall and Jared Harvey, former Barone Middle School principal Jim Hanks has put in an application for one of the empty seats. A resolution to appoint him will be presented to the board for approval at the next town meeting.
Trustees denied a motion 3 to 2 to amend the park permit for David Smith Ranches to put up to 60 head of yearling cattle out to graze Ute Park from Nov. 6 through Dec. 6.
Meeker Chamber Director Stephanie Kobald updated the board on Chamber and Main Street activities, noting the Chamber has received $40K in grant funding this year for extra projects. She thanking the town for their partnership.
Public Works Supervisor Russell Overton said beaver activity is impacting public works staff, who are cleaning out dams daily. The property owner doesn’t want the beavers bothered.
Police Chief Eddie Thompson said the Meeker PD responded to 237 incidents in September, resulting in four summons and zero trips to Moffat County for inmate transport.
Town Planner Carly Thomson attended a Housing Colorado workshop in Breckenridge, held a planning commission meeting, and has scheduled the third land use code revision workshop for Oct. 26 at 7 p.m.
Town Clerk Lisa Cook provided the third quarter financial report, saying, “It appears unlikely the town will be using any of its reserves this year.” The town received more money than expected from Federal Mineral Lease and Severance Tax funds, and had some unfinished projects that were budgeted for 2022.
Town Administrator Mandi Etheridge reminded the board about the public input meeting tonight, Oct. 20 at 7 p.m. regarding planning for Circle Park and the proposed river improvement project.
