MEEKER | This year the Range Call committee has chosen Christy Atwood as the 139th Parade Marshal.
Atwood experienced her first Meeker Range Call Rodeo in 1987 with her dad. From that year forward it has been her favorite place to be over the 4th of July holiday. After marrying her husband Rowdy and moving to Meeker in 1994, it became second nature to participate in the CPRA or Ranch Rodeo as a contestant. In 2009 she changed her focus to the production side for either or both of those events. This year marks 30 years that she has dedicated herself to participating in one way or another with her family.
The 4th of July celebrations hold a special place in Christy’s heart, representing the essence of Meeker’s spirit, which she cherishes. Beyond the festivities, Christy’s compassion extends to her 19-year tenure at Pioneer Medical Center, where she selflessly serves her fellow townsfolk. She organizes numerous events aimed at benefiting this little town that she adores.
Christy shared her thoughts on what Range Call means to her: “The thing that is special about Range Call to me is the ‘rodeo family’ that it represents. While Rowdy brought me to Meeker, the legacy of the local ranchers who rodeoed with us like the Norells, Andersons, Watsons, Brennans, Turners, and Klinglesmiths, to name a few are the reason it is an important tradition to help to continue.”
Range Call’s nomination of Christy as parade marshal for the 139th Range Call celebration is a well-deserved recognition of her unwavering commitment and kind-hearted nature, while also holding an honorary place for her late husband Rowdy, who passed doing what he loved. Together they are more than just a name; they are beloved figures in our community. The Range Call committee wishes to thank them for their many years of participation, service, and commitment to the 4th of July rodeos, and to say that Rowdy will be greatly missed.
