Rangely boys basketball edges out Cotopaxi, falls to Evangel Christian in season finale

RANGELY | The Rangely High School boys basketball team hosted the Cotopaxi Pirates last week, looking to bounce back from a 64-41 loss to Grand Valley. The Panthers defended their home court in a hard-fought battle, securing a 35-34 victory and sending the Pirates sailing out of Rangely.

Junior Landon Bollinger led the Panthers with 10 points and seven rebounds, while senior Marcos Quintana contributed eight points and 15 rebounds. The Panthers dominated the offensive glass, finishing with 15 offensive rebounds. They have now recorded at least 11 offensive boards in their last three games.

Defensively, Rangely limited Cotopaxi’s senior Terrance Evans to 16 points, eight rebounds and four steals. Senior Joel Tezak was also held in check, finishing with six points and six rebounds.

The Panthers have won three of their last four games, improving their record to 8-14 on the season.

The following day, Rangely wrapped up its season with a tournament matchup against Evangel Christian Academy. Despite a strong effort, the Panthers fell 66-52.

Quintana posted 14 points and eight rebounds, while senior Clay Allred added 14 points and nine rebounds, narrowly missing a double-double. Allred has been a defensive force in recent games, recording at least two steals in each of the last four contests. Sophomore Bradley Lambros also contributed, finishing with seven points and six rebounds.

The Panthers once again dominated the offensive glass, collecting 15 offensive rebounds. They have now secured at least 11 offensive boards in each of their last four games.

Defensively, Rangely struggled to contain Evangel Christian senior Boaz Galliart, who scored 22 points and dished out seven assists. Senior Brock Jones also caused problems for the Panthers, finishing just shy of a double-double with 18 points and nine rebounds.

Rangely has faced challenges this season, losing nine of its last 12 games. With the loss, the Panthers closed the 2024-25 season with an 8-15 overall record.
