Rangely Panthers girls basketball team remains undefeated

RANGELY | The Rangely Panthers girls basketball team hosted the Meeker Cowboys last week, entering the game with a perfect 10-0 record. The Panthers’ most recent victory was a dominant 69-8 win over Soroco. The Cowboys sought to hand Rangely its first loss of the season but were unable to overcome the Panthers’ strong performance.

The Panthers extended their home winning streak to 14 games, dating back to last season. Senior Miah Wren had a standout performance, scoring 27 points, including seven 3-pointers on 12 attempts. Wren also contributed four steals, marking her third consecutive game with two or more steals.

Senior Emmeree Wagner added nine points and grabbed seven rebounds, continuing her upward trend in scoring with three straight improved performances. The Panthers’ defense was crucial in containing Meeker’s offensive threats. Junior Addie Knowles managed just four points, seven rebounds, and four steals, while junior Shailee Rundberg was held to six points and seven rebounds.

With the win, Rangely advanced to 11-0 on the 2024-25 season.

Two days later, the Panthers hosted Caprock Academy and cruised to a 62-8 victory, maintaining their undefeated record. Wren led the offense again, scoring 19 points and recording seven steals. This marked her third straight game with at least 10 points. Wren currently ranks first in the 2A/1A Western Slope League in points per game (18.9), field goals made (77), and 3-pointers made (30).

Senior Ashlynn Ducey also had an impactful game, scoring 14 points on 7-of-9 shooting. Ducey added eight assists and five steals, solidifying her spot as the league leader in assists per game (4.7). The Panthers totaled 19 assists in the game, outclassing Caprock Academy in team play.

The victory marked Rangely’s 15th consecutive home win, pushing their record to 12-0 on the season. The Panthers’ defense has been a key factor in their success, allowing just 24.9 points per game.

The Panthers will be back at home this weekend, hosting Vail Mountain on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and North Park on Saturday at 1pm Fans are encouraged to come out and support the team as they aim to extend their winning streak. Good luck to the team this weekend and Go Panthers!
