Red Canyon Fire
Location: 31 miles south of Rangely
Percent Containment: 30 percent
Size: 5,766 acres
Resources: Approximately 484
Area Closure: The Bureau of Land Management issued an area closure for the Red Canyon fire area for firefighter and public safety.
Fire activity: Yesterday moderate precipitation allowed the firefighters to work directly on the fire’s edge increasing the percentage of containment. In some areas, topography and fuels make it unsafe for crews to build fire line near the fire perimeter. The public can expect to see increased smoke when conditions allow the firefighters to burn from roads to increase containment levels. Residents were allowed to return to their homes today at 8 a.m. While evacuations were lifted for homeowners off of County Rd 27, the area remains closed to the public.
