RHS celebrates Homecoming this week

RANGELY | This week is Rangely High School’s Homecoming week, themed Modern Wonders of the World.
The festivities kicked off with daily dress up days for students. Monday was “Senior Citizen Day,” Tuesday brought “Emotion Day,” Wednesday was tagged as “Wonder of the World Day” and Thursday will see students wearing their 2017 Homecoming t-shirts.
Tuesday brought the powderpuff flag football game when the freshman and senior girls, coached by Kennan LeBleu, took on the sophomores and juniors, coached by Paul Fortunato. The girls were cheered on from the sidelines by boys who fulfilled the role of cheerleaders.
Thursday night starts with a chili dinner at the recreation center at 5 p.m. followed by the annual bonfire. The dinner runs $5 per person or $20 for a family.
Friday kicks off with the parade down Main Street at 2 p.m. as the football and volleyball teams prepare to take on the Soroco Rams. JV volleyball starts at 4 p.m. followed by varsity at 5 p.m. The football game kicks off at 7 p.m., with this year’s royalty announced at halftime. Freshmen royalty are Kacie Lapp and Anthony Lujan and sophomores are Dillya Wagner and Brady Bertock. The junior class is represented by Phalon Osborn and Grady Nielsen. The Class of 2017 nominees are Katelyn Brown and Kobe Broome, Kierra Powell and Josh Polley, and Tasha Teal and Doug Dennison.
Saturday will bring the close of the Homecoming festivities with the dance. The dance will take place at the Early Education Center with pictures starting at 8 p.m. and dancing from 9 p.m. to midnight.
