Rio Blanco County seeking public comment on wildland-urban interface code this week

RBC | Rio Blanco County is requesting public comment on the proposed adoption of the Colorado Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI) Code, with implementation scheduled to begin April 1, 2026.

A public meeting will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31, at the Rio Blanco County Courthouse to provide an overview of the proposed code and gather community feedback.

The proposed WUI Code is intended to reduce risk to life, property, and infrastructure in areas where development meets or intermingles with wildland vegetation.

The code establishes minimum standards related to building construction, defensible space, access, and site design in designated wildfire hazard areas. These standards aim to improve structural ability to withstand wildfire exposure and to support safer conditions for emergency responders.
