Sportsman’s Club hosts sight-ins, raffle

MEEKER I The Meeker Sportsman’s Club started in 1978. With 200 members, they offer scholarships, partner with Colorado Parks and Wildlife for hunter’s safety courses, and help with veterans’ hunts and youth hunts. They also hosts annual “sight-in” days for a nominal fee. Volunteers from the club donate time and skills to help hunters get guns ready for their hunt.
“We charge $5 for them to sight-in their own gun, or $10 if we sight-in for them,” said Alvin Jones, Sportsman’s Club president. “We have one of the better set ups in the country,” he said.
On average, club members sight-in between 600 and 700 guns a year.
This year’s sight-in days are Oct. 13-14, Oct. 20-21, Nov. 3-4 and Nov. 15. Targets, shooting benches, spotters, assistance and coffee are provided.
Hunters are also encouraged to purchase raffle tickets for the annual Meeker Sportsman’s Club fundraiser. Funds from the raffle are used for operating costs for the club. Tickets are available at the range, 4.5 miles southwest of Meeker on HIghway 13.
Three tickets will be chosen in a drawing Saturday, Nov. 19, to win one of three different firearms. Tickets are $1 each or 11 for $10.
