MEEKER | After several lengthy discussions in multiple meetings, Meeker’s Board of Trustees reviewed an ordinance for the Grant-Overton resubdivision in the Sanderson Hills Subdivision. The resubdivision changes the final plat for lots 235-259 into 12 lots and was approved by the Town Planning Commission.
Trustee Travis Day said he was concerned that the contingencies previously requested by the board were not adequately addressed, and that not having a Subdivision Improvement Agreement (SIA) would put the requirement on individual lot owners to put in the infrastructure. Trustees voted in favor of the ordinance.
The board accepted an application for a tavern liquor license for the Black Sulphur Tavern, LLC., from Frank Maestas. The Tavern will be located in the 7th Street building that previously housed Outfitters and before that, The Fork. Maestas said they plan to serve food and have “more of a sports bar atmosphere.” A public hearing was set for Nov. 7, 2023.
Town Clerk Lisa Cook presented the public draft of the 2024 budget, stating, “…the draft as prepared includes a total of $2,790,995 for systems development in the General Fund and will require $1,345,985 of reserves to balance. The Water Fund systems development totals $670,162 and will require $538,067 of reserves to balance that fund. Current undesignated reserves in the Water Fund as of Aug. 31 are $779,371.89.” A public hearing for the budget is set for Nov. 21.
Following the award of a $150K grant for the purpose of updating the light fixutres on the downtown street lights, trustees opened bids ranging from $50K to $292K. Town staff will review and make recommendations at the next meeting. The lights will be compatible with the current poles, LED for efficiency, and dark-sky friendly.
Trustees formalized Ashley Lee Smith’s and Kate McCaffrey’s appointments to fulfill two remaining terms on the Meeker Housing Authority board.
An additional extraterritorial (outside of town limits) water tap fee request was considered and discussed by trustees for water to a property on the south side of County Road 8 in conjunction with a previously approved private water line owned by Rural Coz Housing, the parent company of Trail & Hitch RV Park. Multiple questions were raised about ownership of the line, which line the property owner plans to tap into. Trustees tabled the agreement until additional information is obtained.
Etheridge said the town has seven applicants for the public works superintendent’s position, with interviews this month.
