Undeterred by Ride the Rockies cancellation, Christian cycling group plans to carry on Colorado ride to raise funds for children’s mission

RBC |  Ends Cycling has combined cycling with global missions since 2012. Its members raise funds individually for selected beneficiaries and then participate in various cycling tours.

The group had planned to participate in the Ride the Rockies tour next week. Outreach Tour Coordinator for Ends Cycling David Wehrle was in Italy when his “phone started blowing up” with the news that the Ride the Rockies event had been summarily canceled.

The outreach group decided to  persevere and ride the course on their own. They sought hosting help from local churches, and will spend one night in Meeker and two nights in Rangely.

The cyclists all raise $1,000 on their own, of which 90% goes to a designated beneficiary. The beneficiary chosen for this trip is Light to the Nations mission in Rio de Janiero, Brazil, which provides after school activities for impoverished children.

Wehrle said there are 21 on the team coming to Colorado; nine are cyclists, some are support team and six are children.

They’ll follow the same course, from Steamboat to Craig, then to Meeker and on to Rangely, before heading to Fruita.

While in Meeker the group will be hosted by White River Methodist Church. Rangely First Baptist will host the cyclists in Rangely. There will be an evening worship service on June 11 at 7 p.m. at White River Methodist and worship services at First Baptist in Rangely at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 12 and Thursday, June 13.
