Bruce Dolan (standing in dark coat), state commander of the Department of Colorado Veterans of Foreign Wars of the U.S., was in Meeker last Saturday for a district meeting held at Kilowatt Corner. Dolan, who is from Aurora, said there are 54 departments, one in each state, Europe, Far East, Latin America and the Phillipines and Colorado has 13 districts. Dolan, an Air Force F-4 crew chief veteran said “District 9 has eight different posts and we meet three times a year to have schools of instructions, discuss community service projects and give reports. Our big thing is to help veterans out.” The VFW Is also involved in youth activities, sponsor the Voice of Democracy essay contest and giving thousands of dollars in scholarships each year.
