MEEKER I Some have said “if you can’t win your own tournament, you’ve got no chance at any other.”Saturday last, Excel Energy employee and tournament organizer Todd Morris and his team won the Xcel Energy tournament. But it wasn’t as easy as just picking the annual event, Morris’ team needed an extra hole to win.Morris, Rick Peterson, Cheryl Campbell and John Anderson finished with an eight-under-par 60 in the four-person scramble tournament, tying with Ryan Wix, Jason, Roston and Cole Steiner, forcing a playoff to determine the champion. Morris’ team won after one extra hole, giving Wix and the Steiners second.Pat Walsh, Leif Joy, Shawn Bolton and Randy Hall finished third with a 63 and Norbert Boes, Neil Joy, Joe Barnhill and Gary Stewart finished fourth in the field of 10 teams.Patty Edwards had the longest drive for the women and Jarrett Clowers did for the men. Leann Matrisciano was closest to the pin for the women and Pat Walsh won the closest to the pin contest for the men.The annual tournament features a pig roast, which was enjoyed by everyone and Jim Joy won a river raft trip on the Colorado River in a drawing.
