MEEKER I Bob Omer’s last day on the job was Friday.
The outgoing CEO of Pioneers Medical Center announced his resignation in January to “pursue other opportunities in health care management.”
Meanwhile, a new chief executive officer, Ken Huey, is on board at the hospital, at least temporarily.
“Ken will be stepping in as the interim CEO,” said Kris Borchard, who is chairwoman of the hospital’s board of directors. “He brings with him 30 years of health care leadership experience.”
Most recently, Huey was CEO at a hospital in Sheridan, Wyo., Borchard said. He also served as CEO at Longmont United Hospital.
“Grand Junction and Rifle are a couple of the western communities where Huey has worked,” Borchard added. “He has a successful track record in many areas, but specifically in business strategies, board, community and physician relationships and service quality.”
Quorum Health Resources (QHR), a hospital management company, is handling the search for a replacement for Omer, who served six years as CEO of Pioneers.
“QHR is in the process of searching for a permanent CEO,” Borchard said. “Mr. Huey will be with us as long as needed during that process, but is not being considered a candidate for the permanent CEO position.”
Omer continues to serve on the Meeker Town Board of Trustees. His wife is a second-grade teacher at Meeker Elementary School.
