MEEKER – Justin Jacob, a graduate of Meeker High School, was still in an intensive care unit (ICU) Tuesday, Feb. 12, at Rapid City Medical Center in South Dakota after falling from a third story balcony Feb. 9. According to his father, he is improving.
“He’s getting better,” John Jacob said by phone Tuesday morning about his son’s condition. “The swelling in his brain has gone down, he is breathing on his own, talking a little and moving everything. The doctors expect a full recovery, sometime.”
Jacob is a student at South Dakota School of Mines and Technology, where he was recently named to the dean’s list for the 2007 fall semester.
Jacob said he expected his son to be in ICU for two more days and didn’t know if he would return to Meeker to rehabilitate or continue the spring semester. “There are still a lot of unknowns but everyday he’s progressing a little more,” Jacob said. “He’s restless but they are going to try to get him to walk today.” Jacob’s mother Shery and brother Mitch are also with him as he recovers.
Friends of the family have set up the Justin Jacob Recovery Fund at First National Bank of the Rockies.
