MEEKER I Chris Selle took over the reins as superintendent of the Meeker School District in early July, and already he is looking forward to seeing the students back for the first day of school, which is Aug. 17.
Selle comes to the Meeker post from the Custer County School District, having lived in Westcliffe, Colo.
He and his wife, Michelle, will have two children who will be students in the Meeker school system this year, with Ainsley in fourth grade and Adison in third grade.
“Everything has been fantastic so far,” Selle said. “We are so glad to be here; we are quickly meeting members of the community and the people have been great. We have been made to feel very welcome since we arrived.”
“The beginning of the school year is always exciting,” Selle said. “It will be nice to have the kids back in the school buildings and learning as that is why we are here.”
Selle said the staff and administrators he has met seem to be fully committed to helping the students learn and grow, and that will continue to be the focus of the school district—to help the schools, administrators, teachers and staff to reach the goal of doing the best possible to help the students.
As to what he faces with the upcoming year, Selle said, “First I need to learn much more about the district and the Meeker community before making any significant changes. Then, I am looking forward to helping the kids learn in whatever way is possible.
“That is what we are here for and that is the ultimate goal I have for the next year,” he said. “It is something I am really looking forward to.”
