MEEKER I Local lady golfers fared well in the Ladies Deerfly Golf Tournament at Meeker Golf Course on Saturday, which included the winners of the second flight.
“We had a pretty good turnout; cloudy day, but no rain,” golf manager Scott Bowman said of the annual tournament, which is an 18-hole scramble format, which featured two flights and 11 teams.
Meeker golfers Patti Edwards and Peggy Back won the second flight with a gross score of 78, five shots ahead of Rifle’s Candy Homerich and Jacey Hauer, who tied with Meeker’s Cheryl Steiner and Jeanie Slack for the best net (63) score.
In the championship flight, Kendra Spalding and Britt Choate finished with the best gross score (68) to take the tournament’s top honors. Meeker’s Jan Henderson and Amanda Back finished one shot behind the champions and with the best net score (53) in the top flight.
The inaugural charitable golf scramble, called “A Celebration of Life and Suicide Awareness,” held in memory of Bobby Castaldo, will be held Saturday at Meeker Golf Course.
After Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. shotgun start, food will be served and music will be played on the driving range.
