2024 marked the 100th year anniversary of the local P.E.O. chapter’s recognition of girls graduating from high school in Meeker. The seniors were treated to dinner, a party and a gift, with awards for the senior with the highest GPA in math (Ainsley Selle) and the girl with the highest GPA in English (Opal Munger). 2024 Chapter President Ellene Meece read the following statement at the event: “P.E.O., now used as an acronym for Philanthropic Educational Organization, is a U.S. based international women’s organization of about 197,000 members, with a primary focus on providing educational opportunities for female students worldwide. As of April 2023, this organization has helped more than 122,000 women pursue educational goals by providing over $415 million in educational assistance, making a difference in women’s lives through six philanthropies and a foundation. Our motto is: Helping women reach for the stars!”
