Take time this weekend to visit the Rio Blanco County Fairgrounds and check out the indoor exhibits, the booths and see all the animals.
RBC I The RBC Centennial Gem Fair is this weekend. When was the last time you visited a good ole county fair? Come relive those times and help us celebrate our 100th anniversary of the Rio Blanco County Fair. Our 4-H kids have been working on their educational projects to show you what they have learned. The Exhibit Halls will be open on Thursday from 6-9 p.m. and all day Friday and Saturday. Come see the great projects that include: sewing, outdoor adventure, entomology, veterinary science, wildlife, horseless horse, photography, shooting sports, visual arts, cake decorating, geology, foods and nutrition, heritage arts, clothing construction, home design, sport fishing.
All these projects are taught by the 4-H method which stresses teaching life skills and building strong community citizens. Youth learn public speaking by demonstrating their project either in front of their community clubs or by making a Facebook video. Each member also participates in community service activities. Please come support these youth, they are the leaders of tomorrow.
And it’s not just the kids who participate in the County Fair. Do you have a quilt you have sewn? Or a great photograph you have taken? How about that family bread recipe that everyone loves or that craft project that everyone tells you is so creative? Are you proud of the vegetables you grow or the flowers in your garden? You could enter those in next year’s county fair. Come to the fair this weekend, see what your neighbors are doing and view all of the great open adult projects for ideas. This is a great community-wide participation activity and it can bring back so many memories of years past. Get out of the house and come see us this weekend in the Exhibit Halls at the Fairgrounds. We have the air conditioners on.
We can’t forget all the livestock projects. Beef, swine, goats, sheep, poultry, rabbits and a few surprises. Our kids and some adults have been raising animals all spring and summer. They are waiting to show you how much they have learned and how great their animals look. Livestock shows start on Wednesday and continue through Friday. The Livestock Sale will be held on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. in the 4-H building at the Fairgrounds.
