RANGELY I The holiday came early for three Meeker golfers.
Lex Collins, Pat Hughes and Bryce Ducey combined for top honors with a gross score of 63, which is 9 under par, at the Cedar Ridges Memorial Day Best Ball Tournament on Saturday.
“Anything under par is a good score here,” said Chris Hejl, the golf pro at Cedar Ridges.
The top net score of 50 went to Rangely golfers Jason Cox, Butch Rael and Jack Richens.
The threesome of Doug Choate of Battlement Mesa and Joe Elliott and Mark Sours, both of Rifle, had the second-best gross score of 65.
Another Rangely trio — Rick Brady and Leilanie Morgan and Rob Morgan — turned in the second-best net score of 54, tying with Meeker’s Clint Chappell, Bill Stewart and Brandon Stewart.
“This tournament, we always get a lot of out-of-town teams,” Rangely golf pro Hejl said. “The best-ball tournaments, they always draw a little better player.”
