2010 Rio Blanco County Fair Events

COUNTY FAIR BOOTHS

Joe Newman, foreground, was first in shotgun for the junior division.
Want to share your business, programs, or non-profit information with the public? Have a booth at Rio Blanco County Fair. What better way to get exposure then to be on display at fair.
All booths are six-feet-wide, four-feet-deep and eight-feet-high. They are to be of an educational nature. Each organization may have exhibits, which may be based on any subject of the organization’s choosing. Booths must not promote a business or company if they do they become a commercial booth and will be assessed a $25 charge. Commercial booths are not judged.
PET ROCK CONTEST
This popular contest will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7, in the parking lot at the fairgrounds beginning at 10 a.m. Competition is open to any and all rock owners willing to publicly claim and name their pet rocks and have the confidence in their pet to be a winner. You must provide your own rock. Judges’ decisions will be final and the superintendent reserves the right to alter the course in case of an emergency.
There will be two contests: Best dressed and farthest roller.
Age categories will be: 4 and under, 5-8, 9-15, and 16 & up. Three places will be awarded per class in each category.
Best-dressed rules — Pet rocks will be judged for most original and most outstanding costumes.
Farthest-roller rules — Rock must race free from all manmade alterations, clothing or adornments. Pets must compete from a standing start and maintain a true course on a track designed by the contest superintendent. All rocks must weigh at least 2 ounces and not more than 5 pounds. The pet traveling the furthest straight distance from start to finish will be declared the winner. Awards provided by Meeker Sand and Gravel.
LITTLE BUCKAROO RODEO
Come join us for all the excitement on Saturday, Aug. 7 at 11 a.m. for the Little Buckaroo Rodeo. We will have mutton bustin’, calf riding, poles, barrel races and goat tying (or ribbon pull for the younger buckaroos). Youth ages 3-12 are invited to try their hand at a little rodeo action. Other entries are due by 10 a.m. under the grandstands. Helmets are mandatory for mutton bustin’ and calf riding; participants must provide their own helmet. Buckles and ribbons will be awarded. For entry forms and more information refer to the back of the fair book.
Little Buckaroo sponsors are: Bolton Fencing and Construction, Stanley and Vicki Crawford, Fidelity Mortgage, Rio Blanco County Abstract, Rio Blanco County Fair Board, Shults Ranch, White River Electric Association and White River Energy.
A big thank-you to Pat and Ila Sturgeon, Russ and Renae Steele, and Dee and Vicki Norell for the use of livestock.
RABBIT CHASE
The annual rabbit chase will take place Saturday, Aug. 7, at 10:30 a.m. (following the round robin). There are two age divisions for this event: children ages 2-3 and ages 4-5. Rabbits will be turned loose in a small pen in the indoor arena. Youth in each division will have a chance to chase and catch a rabbit. Please be prepared to take a bunny home if one is caught.

BAKED GOODS AUCTION
The baked goods auction will be held on Saturday, Aug. 7, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Only a slice (pies, cakes, breads) and two pieces (rolls, cookies, candies) will be left for display after judging. The remaining food items may either be picked up between 3-4 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5, or may be donated to the auction. Wander into the exhibit hall and bid on your favorite box of baked goods. We have reached our first goal of purchasing a refrigerated display case. Thanks to all our bake sale buyers.
Proceeds will go to the Rio Blanco County 4-H Scholarship Fund.
OPEN CLASS FAIR
Plan to attend the Rio Blanco County Fair Aug. 3-7 with your canned goods, sewing and needlework projects, photography, art, and other open class fair exhibits. Open class exhibits will be accepted at the fairgrounds on Wednesday, Aug. 4 from 6-8 p.m., photography exhibits will be accepted most of the day on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m., exhibit entries will be taken the following morning, Thursday, Aug. 5 from 7-9 a.m.
The Rio Blanco County Fair Board encourages everyone to enter exhibits that showcase their talents. This county is full of talented people and it’s wonderful to see those talents exhibited. Make sure you pick up a fair book and see all the classes that are available including cream pies, cheesecakes, custard pies, milks and cheeses.
Exhibitors may choose to donate their entries to the baked goods sale again this year.
