Rangely Chamber of Commerce selects Hames as president

The Rangely Chamber of Commerce board of directors elected Henry Hames as its new president. Hames will replace Jane Miller, owner of Quality Carpet and Furnishings.
RANGELY I Henry Hames was nominated by fellow board members to become the new president of the Rangely Chamber of Commerce last Thursday at the organization’s December meeting.
Hames, who owns and operates Buck N Bull RV Park, will replace Jane Miller at the helm. Miller will remain on the board with fellow members Becky Dubbert, Kathy Filener, Angie Miller and Peggy Rector. Tim Webber is the chamber’s treasurer and former Rangely mayor Ann Brady will serve as its secretary.
“I want to be a part of the growth process and I believe the chamber is an important organization to our businesses and community,” Brady said.
The board discussed the success of the 2010 Holidayfest and were thankful to Christina White for her lead role in the annual event.
David Morton presented the board with a proposal to redesign and maintain the chamber’s website, which was approved. Morton will work with Lisa Piering of the Town of Rangely on the new site.
The board will also be working on a job description to replace chamber assistant Vanessa Popham. Popham presented her resignation to become a stay-at-home mom.
“Thanks for everything,” Popham told the board.
“We’re sorry to see you go,” outgoing president Miller said.
In other marketing news, the Rangely chamber will again advertise in the 2011 Colorado Vacation Directory and will distribute brochures and information at the Colorado RV and Boat Show in Denver.
Rector would like the chamber to produce a short video “promoting the community and the area.”
Rector spoke of tying in with the county.
The board approved a budget for the annual Crab Crack, a major fundraiser for the chamber, Rector and Jane Miller will co-chair the event. An additional 50 pounds of crab legs will be added to the 450 pounds consumed at last year’s event.
The board will be gathering nominations for the Business of the Year and Volunteer of the Year awards, which are presented at the Crab Crack. The Crab Crack is scheduled for Feb. 12.
