• The registration books are now open at Hugus & Co. for town election.
• The present incumbent, W.H. Clark, and J.L. McHatton are the most prominent candidates mentioned for the mayoralty.
• Frank Burcham of Glenwood came over to examine the soil around Meeker as to its adaptability to brick making … he may start a brick yard here.
• A gentleman familiar with the oil country in Pennsylvania will shortly visit Meeker for the purpose of examining the territory northwest of Meeker which gives promise at no distant date of becoming an oil-producing country.
• The Messrs. Breene, Taylor and McKee, three of Piceance’s rising cattle kings, are “doing” the metropolis today.
• The streets are nearly bare of snow.

• The recently completed engineering study of Meeker’s sanitation facilities pointed out the dire need for a sewage treatment plant.
• Construction is complete at the Walbridge Memorial Convalescent Wing of Pioneers Hospital. An open house will be held this Sunday.
• Twice last week prisoners held in the county jail in Meeker escaped. Both were captured.
• Forrest Nelson and Jerry Seely, freshmen at Colorado State University, were named to the honor roll for the fall quarter. Both boys ranked in the upper 5 percent scholastically.

• Piceance Creek community to school board: “Don’t close Rock School.”
• The proposed downtown development project put together by Chuck Whiteman would put in more than two miles of new sidewalks, gutters and street lights in the 20-block business district.
• Ron Hilkey announced his intention to run for a third term as Rio Blanco County sheriff.
• The annual Meeker Lions Club carnival was the usual rip-roaring success last Saturday as hundreds enjoyed an evening of games, bingo and a raffle drawing for $500 worth of gift certificates.
• Lions Club volunteers Sam Stranathan and Jim McDermott demonstrated the fine art of cotton candy making for Sally Eatherton’s kindergarten class.

• Tons of ice passed under the Colorado 64 bridge west of Rangely following dynamiting of an ice jam near the town water works.
