RIO HAPPENINGS: Aug. 16-22, 2026

ARRESTS 
8/22/2026 – Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 72 year-old male for Domestic Violence, 2nd Degree Assault, Strangulation and Harassment. He was taken to jail and released on a PR bond.


8/23/2026 – Rio Blanco County Sheriffs Office arrested a 36 year-old male for domestic violence, 3rd Degree Assault and Child Abuse. He was taken to jail and released on a PR bond.


8/23/2026 – Rio Blanco County Sheriff’s Office arrested the same 36 year-old male from above on Violation of a Protection Order. He was taken to jail and was released due to the case getting dismissed.


CALL SUMMARIES
Bear-related calls dropped slightly this week, with only 9 calls. This was a slow week in bear country.


8/17/2026 @ 2:39 pm. An iPhone crash alert notified Communications of a possible vehicle accident. Deputies responded and located a single-vehicle crash with one occupant, who was injured and transported to the hospital for treatment.


8/18/2026 @ 12:52 pm. A trailer decided it had enough of the road trip and came unhooked from a truck near the 11-mile marker on Highway 64. Unfortunately, its dramatic exit also sparked a small grass fire. The fire was quickly contained.


8/21/2026 @ 8:25 pm. Deputies responded to a domestic violence situation at a local campground. The male party was taken into custody and an ambulance was called for the female victim.


8/22/2026 @ 10:54 am. Medical was dispatched to the 1 mile-marker on County Road 23 for a male reportedly slumped over the steering wheel and appearing to be unconscious. Upon arrival, it was determined the driver was not unconscious—just deeply committed to his nap. No medical assistance was needed.


8/22/2026 @ 6:46 pm. Deputies responded to a domestic violence situation. The male was taken into custody and the female was checked out by the ambulance.


8/22/2026 @ 9:29 pm. A single-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Highway 64 and Highway 13. The single occupant apparently decided the best way to handle the situation was to leave the scene on foot, but EMS crews eventually located the driver and transported them to the hospital. The driver is being investigated for Driving Under the Influence.


8/22/2026 @ 10:45 pm. Communications received a text to 911 requesting an officer for a disturbance at the Green Cabins. Upon the deputies arrival the two males that had been fighting were separated and deputies cleared the scene a short time later.
