Obituary: Earl Allred Nov. 23, 1923 ~ May 13, 2011

Earl Allred, 87, passed away on Friday, May 13, 2011, in his home in Vernal, Utah. Earl was born on Nov. 23, 1923, to Albert Allred and Helen Marie Redden. Earl spent most of his youth in Vernal. It was in these years where he learned the value of work and the love of horses from his step-dad, “Herbert.”
On Dec. 7, 1941, “Pearl Harbor Day,” he was working in Rangely on a drilling rig. It was this day that he decided to join the Army. He served in three different campaigns in the South Pacific. After the war he met and married his sweetheart, Gladys Campbell, on the Sept. 17, 1946, and they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple.
He was a great dad and spent a lot of his time raising his three sons and one daughter. While in Rangely, he worked in various jobs mainly as a mechanic and retiring as a gas operator and pumper for Western Slope Gas Company.
He enjoyed horses, hunting, camping and being with his friends and especially his children and grandchildren. He and Gladys spent many wonderful days traveling and camping in their trailer. Nothing pleased him more than seeing his family together. As an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints he served in five different bishoprics, as a high councilor and various other callings. What he enjoyed most was teaching the youth of the church and sharing the gospel with others.
After Gladys passed on, he married another sweetheart, Reta Condos, whom he married in the Vernal, Utah temple. They enjoyed dancing, camping and being with their friends. This marriage introduced him to a new family with five children, Diana Smith (Jim), Leeta Austin, Gary Condos (Jana), Linda Cable (Roger), and Kathy Hess (LaMont); 18 new grandchildren and 21 new great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Reta Condos Allred, his children Raymond Earl Allred (Carol) Sandy, Utah; David Glade Allred (Joanne) Rangely; son-in-law Larry Steele (Linda), daughter-in-law MaryAnn Allred (James); his brother, Lawrence McKenzie Allred Vernal, Utah; 18 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Campbell Allred, his son James Vincent Allred, his daughter Linda Mae Allred Steele and grandson Benjamin James Steele, two brothers and his sister.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who were involved with his health care.
Funeral services will be Thursday, May 19, 2011, at 11 a.m., at the Vernal 6th Ward Chapel, 850 W.100N., Vernal, Utah. Burial will be in the Vernal City Cemetery. Viewing will be held immediately preceding the funeral at the Thompson Blackburn Mortuary in Vernal.
