Lucky No. 7

RBC I Meeker’s Ted Stewart and Rangely’s Ryan Haugh recently used their seven irons to ace the seventh holes on both the Meeker Golf Course and Cedar Ridges Golf Course.
Stewart was golfing with his older brother, Gary, and his shot was witnessed by a couple from Rifle preparing to tee off No. 8.
“It went straight at the pin, took two hops and went in the cup,” Stewart said.
The elder Stewart said his brother didn’t save the ball, instead he teed it up and “drove the green on eight,” Gary said. The drive set Ted up for his second eagle in a row.
“I gained three strokes on two holes and shot my best game ever (76),” the retired coal miner said.
Haugh made his hole-in-one on a windy June 9.
“I hit it right into the wind,” Haugh said of his shot into 15-20 mile per hour wind gusts. “You can’t see the green from the tee box, I thought I might be close, a little short maybe so I started looking for it. Then my friend James Maybury pulled the pin and my ball popped out! It surprised us all!”
Haugh said his first ever hole-in-one was also witnessed by Jeff Bell and Mike Cushman.
“It was more luck than skill,” Haugh, who didn’t want to reveal his final score, said. “It was slightly below my average.”
