Longtime Dinosaur and Rangely resident Jane Lancaster, 88, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at the Rangely District Hospital Long Term Care Unit.
Phyllis Jane Gall was born April 11, 1920, in Las Animas, Colo., the daughter of Hayward F. and Hadie Fern Monhollan Gall. She was raised on the eastern dry lands and on June 1, 1940, was united in marriage to Frank Lancaster in Borger, Texas. In 1950 the family moved to Artesia originally to work on the expected Echo Park Dam Project. Jane and Frank raised their family in and around Artesia where Jane cooked, gardened and tended to her flowers. She loved to embroider and one year made 77 sets of seven tea towels for area seniors.
Jane especially loved the time she spent with her family around the holidays and for family card games.
Survivors include three sons, David and his wife Rita, Mike and Debbie, Terry and his wife Christy, all of Rangely; eight grandchildren, LaDonna Howard of Evanston, Wyo., Ruta Horner of Tayne, Wyo., Marc Lancaster of Bullhead City, Ariz., Brian Lancaster of Phoenix, Nick Lancaster of Grand Junction, Jeremy Lancaster of Rangely, Laurel Lane of Grand Junction and Lindy Lancaster of Rangely; as well as 18 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren. Jane is also survived by three sisters, Dolores Hoffman of Virginia, Elizabeth Lancaster and Madge Simmons of Grand Junction and one brother H.F. “Jerry” Gall of Kanab, Utah.
Her husband, Frank, preceded Jane in death on Oct. 5, 1992; and she is also preceded in death by her son, Jess Lancaster, one grandson, Mike Lancaster; four sisters, Florine, Pat, Janet and Ginger and one brother Tommy.
A funeral service was held Thursday, Jan. 1 at the Rangely Mortuary. Interment was made in the Dinosaur Cemetery. Friends may make memorial contributions to the veteran’s charity of your choice.
