John Q. Russell II

Former Moffat County resident John Q. Russell II passed away on Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008, at the Montrose Memorial Hospital in Montrose, Colo. He was 92 years of age.
A memorial service will be held next spring in Craig, Colo.
John Q. Russell II was born to John Q. Russell and Jessica Whipkey in Fort Smith, Ark. John spent his childhood in various areas of Texas and Colorado. Mr. Russell was graduated from Fruitvale High School in 1934, and furthered his education at Mesa College in Grand Junction.
John honorably served his country during World War II with the United States Army.
On Nov. 5, 1938, John married the love of his life, Faye E. Freeman in Grand Junction, Colo. To this union two daughters were born. John and Faye resided in Craig, Colo., for more than 60 years before settling in Delta, Colo., seven years ago. The couple had the honor and privilege of celebrating 68 years of love and marriage together.
John was a bookkeeper for a natural gas company for many years. He was a member of the Congregational Church in Craig, and attended the United Methodist Church in Delta.
Mr. Russell was dedicated to community service. He was a member of the Elks Lodge and the Masons in Craig. When he was younger, he enjoyed golfing, skiing. He was also a football fan.
Among many accomplishments, Mr. Russell helped build the road over the Colorado National Monument as a part of the CCC. He also worked at Colorado Northwestern Community College in Craig. He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and great-great-grandfather.
Those grateful to have shared in his life include. Two daughters: Sally Collins, of Delta, Colo., and Susan Winder, of New Glarus, Wis.; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Russell was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Faye E. Russell; one son, John Q. Russell III Ph.D.; one granddaughter, Carrie Stewart; one great-grandson, Rowdy Hall; one brother, Pete Russell; and one sister, Ruth Jones.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to the Delta United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall Fund, P.O. Box 427, Delta, CO 81416
Arrangements are under the care and direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.
