RHS volleyball 2-0 in league play

The RHS volleyball team won two matches last weekend and head coach Dennis Rohn said “everyone contributed to the wins and that is what makes this team special.” Sophomore Aimee Hogan (4) backs up her blockers, senior Haeley Enterline (2), junior Quincey Thacker (11) and sophomore McKale Pennell, in a game against North Park. RANGELY I The Rangely High School volleyball team started league play last weekend 2 and 0. Coach Dennis Rohn was very pleased with the way his team played.“The game had no star, everyone contributed to the wins and that is what makes this team special,” Rohn said. Rangely began the weekend at home against North Park and came out strong to win the first two games by the same score of 25-10. As is often true with the game of volleyball, the momentum switched some and North Park rallied to win the third game 25-19. Rangely had to fight back in the fourth game, trailing by as many as five late in the game. The Panthers “found a way to win,” Rohn said. The team won the deciding game 25-19.  The Panthers went on the road to officially start league play in West Grand. They had the opportunity to see the team play the week before in the Glenwood tournament and Coach Rohn said, “Even though Meeker was playing great ball, we knew West Grand was no team to take lightly.” The Panthers put together a game plan that proved to be successful, “limiting mental mistakes and playing smart volleyball,” and won the match in three games with scores of 25-11, 25-16 and 25-20.“They made huge strides this past weekend, I am excited to see the growth these girls are going to be making this season,” Rohn said, turning his attention to the very important weekend ahead. Rangely will face Vail Christian in Vail Friday and host their triangular Saturday, playing Meeker and Plateau Valley. Coach Rohn anticipates all three teams being tough. “Coach Atwood and her staff do an amazing job with those (Meeker) girls and we will certainly be ready for that match up.” The match looks to be a crucial one for both teams as league standings will begin to unfold.
