Vaughn returns from cattle convention

RBC — Barb Vaughn, Colorado CattleWomen president, has returned from attending the 2008 Cattle Industry Annual Convention and Trade Show of the American National CattleWomen, Inc., National Cattlemen’s Beef Association, Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board, and Cattle-Fax held in Reno, Nev., February 4-9.
The week started off with committee meetings including the National Beef Cook-Off, the National Beef Ambassador Program, Beef Promotion, Consumer Education and Legislative and Issues Management.
Genevieve Lyons, Church Point, La., conducted the meeting of the ANCW State President’s Council. State presidents presented updates on state programs and evaluation national programs.
Jane Lee, Goldendale, Wash., chair of the ANCW board of directors, conducted the business meeting with more than 95 members and guests in attendance.
The new board structure allowed attendees to develop policies, share ideas, and return home full of enthusiasm for the future of both American National CattleWomen and the cattle industry.
The ANCW education seminar featured Wendy Boglioli, a former Olympic swimmer and motivational speaker focusing on long term care education and planning. Dave Sino, executive director Beef and Veal Culinary Center and Kari Underly, president of Range Partners, provided a cutting and cooking demonstration, discussing grading, cooking methods and muscle composition of four new chuck roll cuts.
Fita Witte, Belen, N.M., was installed as the 2008 President of the American National CattleWomen, Inc. president-elect will be Kristy Lage of Arthur, Neb. Lana Slaten, Cullman, Ala. will be Vice president. Immediate past president is Wendy Pettz, Huntsville, Ark.
Barabara Jackson, Tucson, Ariz., was named the 2007 Outstanding CattleWoman of the Year, an award sponsored by Purina Mills. This award is given to a cattlewoman who has excelled at continued beef promotion on the local, state and national level, while contributing dedication, commitment and support to the ANCW.
