100 years ago
n The Hugus Company commenced the erection of another commodious warehouse this week. Clarence Ford is the master mechanic in charge of the work.
n The Meeker Hotel had guests last week from Sydney, Australia; Hobart, Australia; and Rhodesia, South Africa.
n Pay up! Notice is hereby given that all persons indebted to the Meeker Drug company are respectfully requested to call and settle their accounts on or before the first of the year, either by cash or note. We have obligations to meet and need the money.
n Indications point to a large influx of new settlers next spring and summer.
n Another spell of winter set in Tuesday when about 10 inches of snow fell that afternoon and following evening.
n Signs of approaching holiday season are visible in the show windows of all our stores. The displays of good things to eat at Hugus’ and the M. & M. Co. stores are equal to the big city stores.

n Joyce Helen Carter became the bride of Dr. Virgil A. Gould. The groom is a well known Meeker doctor who has made his home in Meeker for a number of years. The bride is a ski instructor in Aspen.
n The “Hi Neighbors!” column introduced Mr. and Mrs. Dale Jens, Robert Huddy, and Mr. and Mrs. Larry G. Johnson and their 2-year-old daughter Peggy.
n To order for Christmas from D’Ages: Brownie movie cameras from $32.50, Aires 35 IIIC camera, $110.

n Assistant District Attorney’s office remained busy as Joe Fennessey said convicted rapist Randall Beaver would come before Judge Gavin Litwiller on Tuesday, Dec. 13, for his sentencing in the case. Fennessey was also busy preparing for another attempted murder trial involving two Rangely men.
n A hearing to decide whether or not Yellow Jacket Water Conservancy District, and others, were entitled to recover attorney fees and related costs from the firm of Musick and Cope, attorneys for Bar 70 Enterprises, Inc., was continued into January 1989.
n Monthly phone service charges were expected to go up $2.16 from $4.68 to $6.84 for basic local residential service.
n Edna Mae Gould did the honors for her family on Thanksgiving.

n Joe McCoy and Jim Robinson purchased the Kennedy Chevrolet agency at Meeker.
n Richard Brenton and Larry Streigel were chosen as fullback and tackle on the All-Northwestern football league team.
n Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Pahr announced the birth of a son named Joseph William.

n The RE-4 School District budget adopted their $1,199,487 budget for 1974. Of that, $999,253 was from tax dollars.
n Unemployment dropped to 4.5 percent during October and wholesale prices declined during the same month. We don’t hear much about this, just about Watergate.
n Showing at the Campus Theatre: Roger Moore as James Bond in Ian Fleming’s “Live and Let Die.”
n The Spartans took third in the Casper, Wyo., T-bird Tournament.
n Nabisco Oreos, 61 cents. Campbell’s tomato soup, five for 69 cents. Kleenex jumbo roll paper towels, 35 cents.

n Frances Green was appointed to be the new Rangely mayor, filling the remainder of the term left to the late E.W. Long.
n “The goal is to have an operational 911 telephone number system by the first of the year.”
n Birth announcements from Rangely District Hospital: Alecia Dee born to Luke and Judy Allred. Miranda Lynn born to Steve and Tammy Strain. William Michael born to Preson and Cheryl Ivy.
n About 80,000 people work in the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York City. Another 80,000 visit on business each day.
