FCCLA members headed to nationals in Florida

More than 20 Meeker High School students competed at the state FCCLA conference in Denver last week and five qualified for the national conference. Amanda Kendall, Jordan Brown, Piper Haney, Aly Ridings and Stephanie Joos will attend the national FCCLA conference in Orlando, Fla., July 8-10.

MEEKER I The FCCLA members from Meeker High School competed at the state conference April 12-14 in Denver qualifying five for the national conference in Orlando Florida on July 8-10. Meeker was well represented in the conference sending nearly 30 kids to compete in a variety of areas. In order to qualify for nationals, participants had to receive a gold award overall.
Amanda Kindall and Jordan Brown won gold in “promote and publicize FCCLA.” Aly Ridings and Piper Haney teamed up in “illustrated talk” to take home gold and Stephany Joos won gold in “recycle and redesign.”
FCCLA leader Angela Blaisdell said, “The kids did an amazing job.” She was very pleased with all the students that participated and added, “All of the kids that competed did a wonderful job on their projects and should be very proud of themselves.”
Meeker had several kids receiving silver awards as well, including the parliamentary procedure team of Sebastian Clark, Taylor Neilson, Dannon Bolton, Taylor Morris, Brittany Smith, Jamie McLaughlin, and Gable Smith. Duo Emilee Kohls and Katie Harman received silver in interior design. The three person team of Ariah Adams, Lily Munn and Perla Romero also ended in the silver category in the area of entrepreneurship. Shelby Burke won silver with her individual life event planning project. Albi Pinela and Kristen Rowland also received silver with their chapter service project manual, and rounding out the silver award winners were Sydney Hughes and Reagan Pearce with their focus on children project. Having 17 participants in the silver category was certainly an accomplishment.
Awards did not stop at silver for the Meeker team, three students also received bronze recognition for their efforts. Laura Keeler was awarded bronze with her national programs in action project, and the combination of Jake Boesch and Nate Walsh received bronze for their environmental ambassador project.
Kudos to the entire team for their involvement and dedication to the FCCLA program. The team obviously did an outstanding job of representing Meeker High School.
